I don't know that I'd remove the door since the caulking will get cracked and need re-doing and it is paint-matched to the body. I might consider disconnecting the check strap and opening the door further than normal. I believe it can open 180° with the strap off.

Side note/thought that just occurred to me: The A/C compressor/pump is on the engine...you may need to disconnect that and suspend it within the engine compartment to avoid having to drain the refrigerant. Hi Frank, Through the passenger door for sure. I suggest a carb lifting plate and engine hoist. If you go through the door, I don't think you'll have to drain the A/C.
